We've had this Aquasana system for about three years now so I think I'm well acquainted with it. First, for anyone with a modicum of handiness and some basic tools the installation is fairly easy. The filter itself works very well. Water tastes great and the flow rate (at least initially) is quite good. You can probably fill a quart container in 45 seconds. However, as the filters get dirty the flow rate begins to decrease. After six months it's probably down to less than half the original flow rate. If this covered everything I'd give it 5 stars.

Where it loses a half star is the quality of the construction of the filter housing. Everything is plastic and with each filter change, something seems to go. First, the screw-on filter covers have wings protruding which allows you to grasp the covers to open and close them. These covers can require a lot of force to open and first one wing would break off and then the other.

When the wings are gone or perhaps even before you can use a socket wrench to remove the covers. Again, because they are plastic, I stripped one of them trying to remove it with a socket.

They do have a "Water for Life" program which entails them shipping out a new set of filters to you every six months and if you sign up for this they will replace the housing or anything that fails for just the cost of shipping and handling ($9.95 for a new housing recently). Although this is a fairly good deal, it would just be preferable if the housing used heavy duty metal for the fittings that get used in which case you wouldn't need a replacement.

Finally, another half star is removed as the cost of the filters has increased significantly from when I initially purchased the system so in a sense this is like the ink jet printer sales model where they sell you a printer at cost (or less) and make money for years selling you ink. In this case however the initial system is not cheap either so whereas I considered it a very economical system when I bought it, I now consider it decent but if Aquasana continues to raise prices I may have to look elsewhere for filtered water..

This product is fairly easy to install and to change filters. You can go on auto-delivery and never have to remember when to change the filters. The water tastes crisp and looks crystal-clean. The only downside is it tends to drip a bit after you turn it off. --well worth the price

We really enjoy the water filter and waited at least a month to review it. We had an Amway filter for years and it was very expensive to replace the
filter and was a pain to open up and always hoped it wouldn't leak so when it broke we were done and decided to try something different. This is when
we got the Aquasana. Wow what a difference to put in and maintain. For 1/2 the price and the same great filtered water I'm sold on it! The only reason
I gave it only 4 stars is because the water doesn't turn off when you turn it off, it does take a while to stop. Other than that it is great and we look forward
to using it for years to come.
